Dog rules on the beach
These are the Town of Sunset Beach's rules; the Town is the final word and the signs at the access win on the day.
When dogs are allowed
Friday before Memorial Day through Labor Day: no dogs on the beach strand 9am–6pm; before 9am and after 6pm is fine. The rest of the year dogs may be on the beach on a leash. Clean up after your dog and carry bags in plain view.
The leash rule
Off your own property, dogs stay on a leash no longer than 10 feet, everywhere in Sunset Beach: mainland, island and beach.
If you don't
$50 civil penalty for a dog on the strand in the banned hours, and $50 for not cleaning up (Town 2023 Beach Rules).
